Home-Start Manchester is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under 5 years of age. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.  


Home-Start is part of the Big Manchester partnership which is a Barnardos-led project team consisting of staff from Manchester MIND, Change Grow Live and The Pankhurst Trust Incorporating Manchester Women’s Aid. The project works with families affected by poor mental health, domestic abuse and/or substance mis-use.


BActive Mcr is an exciting new project which will be funded by Sports England and delivered under the Big Manchester umbrella. As part of a new project team consisting of 3.7 FTE staff, Home-Start is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator. The post holder will be responsible for developing and implementing a recruitment, training and support package for a team of volunteers who will provide mentoring support and/or group support for families wanting to become more involved in physical activity. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape a new project, with access to the support and expertise of the wider Big Manchester partner organisations.


Experience of recruiting, training and managing volunteers; alongside a minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject is essential. A working understanding of the needs of families with complex issues and experience of working collaboratively with partner organisations is also essential. Experience of working with volunteers in a sports-related field would be desirable.


The hours of work are 18.5 a week (worked flexibly according to the need of the service) including some lunchtime and evening work. The base of the project is not yet confirmed but you would be expected to work across Manchester. A Criminal Record Disclosure (Enhanced Level) will be required.


Funding for this post is secured until August 2021.
